When Mandy Barnett was a child, her mother bought a greatest hits tape of songs by the late singer Patsy Cline.
Little did she know that she would bond so closely to the music. For the past 15 years, the Nashville-based singer has periodically portrayed the country music legend in “Always ... Patsy Cline” at the Ryman Auditorium. The show was the first performed when the theater reopened in 1994 after closing in 1974. Barnett’s latest turn in the role was a six-week performance during the Ryman’s 15th anniversary this past spring.
“I never knew my life would take this turn,” she said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

August 14, 2009Crossville’s Mandy Barnett returns to Cumberland County Playhouse on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 16, after her smash hit Ryman Auditorium revival of Always Patsy Cline. She’ll sing an exciting mix of country, '40s and '50s blues and jazz at the Playhouse for the 2:30 p.m. concert.
Her Crossville concert follows two July appearances on the world famous Grand Ole Opry, and precedes later engagements at the Wilson County Fair and in Bowling Green, KY. As the original “Patsy” in the Ryman’s Always Patsy Cline, Mandy loves Patsy’s songs, but the repertoire for this “singer’s singer” now includes many great standards and styles in popular music.
In 1986, when Mandy was 10, she entered a contest at Dollywood where she beat out 2,500 adult and child contestants to with the “Best Country Act” in the “Dollywood Search for Talent” contest. That started a two-year run at Dollywood where she worked during the summer, sharing the stage with

Original Cast to Reprise Roles
January 16, 2009This spring, the critically acclaimed musical, Always...Patsy Cline, returns to the stage where country music legend Cline first rose to fame. Vocal powerhouse Mandy Barnett reprises her critically acclaimed turn as Patsy, and theatre veteran Tere Myers returns in the role of Louise Seger. The popular musical opens April 15 and is slated for a 6-week engagement at the historic theatre. This will be the play's 5th run at the Ryman, its first since January 2000.
Based on the true story of the friendship between Cline and her devoted fan, Louise Seger, the play takes its name from Cline's signature on letters she wrote to Seger. The two women struck up a friendship in 1961 before a show Cline was giving in Houston, Mississippi. They corresponded until Patsy's death at age 30 in an airplane crash on March 5, 1963. Patsy signed every letter to Louise the same way: "Always...Patsy Cline."
